November Horse Adoptions

December 1, 2017

In November six Sunshine Horses found their forever homes.

Crazy Levi (Vic), Serengetti and Watchinmypocket (Pocket) were adopted together.  Serengetti was owned by Sunshine Founder Kate Starr's father and had been a Sunshine resident since her father's death in 2012.  Serengetti is a fiesty horse in a small package.  Serengetti could not be ridden and was available as a companion horse.

Vic and Pocket were only with Sunshine for a few months but that didn't make it any easier to let them go. Vic and Pocket are both former racehorses who were re-trained to be pets.  It was emotional saying goodbye to these three but we are happy they went to such a good home and that they were able to stay together.

Devil's Bargain (Lucky) had been with Sunshine since 2014.  Lucky is a retired Standardbred race horse who's achy joints made trail riding and other popular activities unlikely.  Sunshine volunteer Diane bonded with Lucky the moment she met him and became one of his sponsors.  Diane and  Lucky went on regular trail walks and practiced ground work.  After all of their activities Diane would apply icy hot to his joints and put magnetic bracelets on his ankles to minimize his discomfort.  No one was surprised when Diane decided to adopt Lucky.

We can't think of a better person to give this special boy his forever home.

TL Six Shooter (Shooter) was rescued from a kill pen along with Sunshine alumnus Amazida (Z) in 2016.  Shooter and Lucky became instant stall buddies.  The two of them enjoyed turnout and trail walks together along with their own special game of stall tag.  There was some concern over how Shooter would fare after Lucky was adopted.  Luckily he found his forever home a week after   Lucky and quickly bonded with his new stable mates.  We love that they were able to stay together until they found their forever homes.

Book Classics (Cassie) arrived at Sunshine in 2014.  This sweet girl was only 3 years old when we first met her.  Cassie's sweet demeanor and quick study made her a joy to work with.  It was not a surprise when Sunshine volunteer Megan decided to give her a forever home.  We look forward to getting updates on this young mare.  We know she has a bright future ahead of her.
