Sunshine Alumnus Lighting Prince
July 29, 2018
Lightning Prince won $61,298 during a brief racing career. He was only 8 years old when he came to Sunshine. Prince won the hearts of volunteers and trainers with his easy demeanor and eagerness to please. Prince excelled in his training and transitioned from racehorse to riding horse quickly. After a year with us he was placed in his forever home.
Standardbreds are extremely versatile. The same traits that make them excellent race horses allow for easily adaption into other disciplines. In pleasure driving, a horse is hitched to a 2 or 4-wheeled show cart and driven at a walk or trot in an arena. The horse's performance is important but their manners and conformation also factor into their score.
Last weekend Lightning Prince competed in the Lorenzo Driving competition in Cazenovia, NY. Prince placed second in the novice horse division. Congratulations to Prince and his adopter Cindae on another great showing and thank you for being an ambassador for the Standardbred.
