Description:
Charlie is a 10-year-old Quarter Horse gelding who arrived at Sunshine in March after being rescued, along with three other horses, from a neglect situation. While he is now safe and receiving the care he needs, Charlie is still learning to trust people and adjust to his new life.
A striking grayish-palomino, Charlie is a handsome horse with a gentle nature beneath his cautious exterior. He remains very nervous around people and is particularly head shy, often raising his head high when approached. This behavior reflects his uncertainty and past experiences rather than a lack of willingness to connect.
With patience and consistency, Charlie is making steady progress. He enjoys being groomed, stands on cross ties, and willingly picks up his feet for handling. Although he is not yet comfortable with having his face touched, he responds well to calm, gentle interactions and is gradually becoming more relaxed in the presence of his handlers.
Charlie leads quietly to and from pasture and has demonstrated a willingness to learn. He appears to have previous experience with lunging and has confidently navigated obstacles such as the wooden bridge in the arena. His training team is taking a slow, thoughtful approach, allowing him to build confidence at his own pace.
Every day, Charlie becomes a little braver. His journey is a testament to the power of patience, trust, and compassionate care. As he continues to heal and gain confidence, Charlie is showing all the signs of a horse with a bright future ahead.
