Description:

Sam is a 10-year-old Quarter Horse gelding who arrived at Sunshine Horses several months ago after being rescued from a severe neglect situation. Since his arrival, he has been steadily gaining confidence and learning to trust people again.

Sam leads well on a halter and stands quietly on cross ties. While he is still nervous around people and can be head shy, he is making consistent progress through patient, gentle handling. He is also becoming more comfortable with grooming, though he remains sensitive around his ears, hindquarters, and tail. His caregivers continue to work with him slowly and respectfully to build trust in these areas.

In the arena, Sam has begun basic groundwork and is learning foundational skills such as lunging and voice commands. He is gaining confidence with new experiences and has already shown willingness to navigate obstacles, including ground poles, a wooden bridge, and tarps. He will also carefully back off the bridge, demonstrating growing awareness and confidence.

With a calm, patient approach, Sam continues to make steady progress. His future remains open and promising, and he may one day thrive as a trail horse or in another fulfilling role suited to his developing skills and personality.
